We’re proud to announce that Synthosys co-founder Dr Tarek Jomaa has been nominated for the Institute of Leadership Advocate of the Year Award.

For Tarek, this recognition is not just a personal milestone but a reflection of his journey — from motorsport engineering and higher education to co-founding Synthosys. At every stage, he has championed the importance of culture and alignment, helping leaders and organisations become anti-fragile in the face of uncertainty.

His advocacy within the Institute of Leadership community has taken many forms:

  • Delivering a keynote at Leadership Live 2025 in London.

  • Speaking at the Members’ Reception at Warwick Castle.

  • Contributing to the Institute’s podcast series.

  • Leading the Synthosys Certified Leadership Course, accredited by the Institute.

  • Publishing articles in the Institute’s Edge magazine.

Reflecting on the nomination, Tarek shared:

“A common misperception is to think alignment means everyone agreeing. In truth, resilience is found in how teams handle disagreements — that’s where strength comes from.”

He also offered a personal note of advice to his younger self:

“Like tyres in motorsport, life is about compromise — what you gain on one side, you lose on the other. Be wise in your choices, but always stay curious and ambitious.”

For Tarek, advocacy is about amplifying the Institute’s mission to make leadership more accessible, more human, and more impactful. It’s about creating communities where leaders feel part of something larger — connected by purpose, resilience, and the shared drive to raise the flag of leadership worldwide.

Takeaway: Advocacy in leadership is not about pushing for harmony — it’s about ensuring resilience through alignment. True strength comes not when everyone agrees, but when leaders and teams know how to navigate disagreement without breaking. That is the essence of anti-fragile leadership.
